Color Gamut Analysis of Frequency Modulated Screen Reproduction

چکیده

A gamut's size and shape may depend on many factors other than the physical properties of its primary colorants. The color gamut created by certain types of frequency modulated (FM) screening technologies appears to be larger than those created by conventional halftone (AM) screens while using the same colorants. Most device gamuts are determined by the physical properties of the substrate and inks. This paper describes and tests gamut-determining factors when physical properties remain unchanged Ð based on the screens alone. Color gamut mapping of FM device space is common, and much analysis is available about the factors contributing to an AM/CMYK device-gamut. It is the intent of this paper to provide an analysis of a FM/CMYK device-gamut, compare the gamuts resulting from FM and AM screen performance alone, and to suggest directions of further research.

A Multi-Resolution, Full-Colour Spatial Gamut Mapping Algorithm

A multi–resolution, full–colour spatial gamut mapping algorithm (GMA) is proposed in this paper. Its aim is to maintain as much of an original image’s overall, and in particular spatial, information as possible within the limits of a reproduction medium’s gamut. First, the original image is decomposed into different spatial frequency bands. Second, lightness compression and initial gamut mappin...

A New Method for Color Gamut Mapping by Genetic Algorithm

To reproduce an image, it is necessary to map out of gamut colors of the image to destination gamut. It is clear that the best color gamut mapping introduces the perceptually closest image to the original one. In this study, a new color gamut mapping is purposed by the aid of Genetic Algorithm (GA). The color difference between the original and mapped images based on S-LAB formula was chosen as...

A New Representation for Device Color Gamuts

Introduction An important part of color reproduction is the rendering of colors onto display devices [1], where the colors may be spot colors (e.g., tints) or the colors of a digitized photograph. Display devices, such as monitors and printers, are capable of showing only a subset of all perceivable colors; this subset is called the device color gamut. Colors subjected to a reproduction system ...

A Spatial Color-Gamut Calculation to Optimize Color Appearance

Colorimetry is limited to image data from a single pixel. Measures of errors between an “original” and a “reproduction” are usually described as the distance between the two values of a pixel in a colorimetric three-dimensional space. Human color constancy uses spatial comparisons between different parts of the image. The relationships among neighboring pixels are far more important than the ab...

Development and Evaluation of Six Gamut-Mapping Algorithms for Pictorial Images

Six techniques for mapping the colors of an image into the gamut of printable colors were compared. Six pictorial scenes were used in two psychophysical experiments, one to test accurate reproduction and one to test preferred reproduction. A new contrast-enhancing algorithm was found to give more favorable reproductions than several gamut-mapping techniques described in the literature. This alg...
